AROUND VALENCIA
 
The province of Valencia offers the visitor a great range of possibilities with regard to beautiful spots and landscapes to know better a land characterized by its contrasts, where the tourist will be able to admire all the influences that come directly from the old civilizations: phoenicians, romans, arabs and christians, still to be seen in many places.

  -  XÀTIVA
Xàtiva's Castle
 
Full of historic monuments, origin of paper in Europe... Xàtiva, a magnificent monumental city, offers a rich cultural and artistic heritage which still keeps its old noble origin intact. The castle, an important visit, is the most symbolic monument of the city. Though its originin is iberian and roman, most of the walls and towers preserved until today are of gothic style or have arab traces. Xàtiva, besides, has one of the oldest paleonthological remains of the Iberian Peninsula, the Cova Negra caves, with traces of human activity that go 8000 years back in time.
   

  -  GANDÍA
 
 Of iberian origin, ducal city and capital of the Safor area. Gandía keeps the cultural heritage of the XV century, combined with other aspects of tourism: sun, and beautiful beaches thanks to its privileged location between the sea and mountains. This means a rich landscape in contrasts and a mild weather.
 Gandía owes its  rich heritage, as aforementioned, to the XV century: the Colegiata de Santa María, the Palacio Ducal (the Duke's Palace, the Hospital de San Marcos (Saint Mark Hospital), the Convento de las Clarisas (Clarisas nuns Monastery) or the City Hall. On the outskirts, the Bayren Castle and the Alquería del Duc are
important places to visit. Gandía is also known for its typical dish, fideuà, which you will be able to taste in some of its excellent restaurants.

  -  SAGUNTO
 
Sagunto, strategically located on top of a hill and near the river Palancia, constitutes one of the most beautiful monumental cities that the process of romanization left in Spain. Traces of this can be found in their ruins, monasteries and churches, though special attention deserves the Roman Theater. It is currenly used for music concerts, dance shows and theatre plays, with the presence of renowned artists. Likewise, the Roman Circus, the Jewish part of the city or the Acrópolis (on top of which the medieval castle was erected) are also outstanding.

  -  SUECA Y CULLERA
 
If the tourist follows the route across the rice fields that stretches out along the coast, Sueca and Cullera are two towns that must be visited, above all if this visit takes place in spring. In the month of May the fields look like a real japanes painting, a pond of golden waters in September in harvest time. Cullera is the only mountain top by the sea that can be seen in the whole valencian gulf. On top, the castle offers one of the most incredible views of the landscape.

  -  LA HUERTA

The crop fields zone in Valencia stretches out along the coast from Carcaixent to Sagunto. The mild weather in Valencia and the fertility of the soil can offer together up to four yields every year the great variety of vegetables and flowers give as a result lots of colours over a carpet of bright green. It is specially remarkable the Albufera area, with the marshy rice fields.

  -  LA ALBUFERA

Between the rice fields and the sea, with which it is connected, the National Natural Park of La Albufera is considered as one of the richest humid areas of the Peninsula. Lots of different species of migratory birds take refuge in it, such as flamingos, herons, storks... The traditional activities of this fresh water lake are the growing of rice, hunting and fishing. The coastal area near the Albufera is made up by long sand beaches as El Saler, El Perellonet, El Perelló and Les Palmeretes.
Within this environment, the most important attractive for the tourist are the rides on a boat, guided by fisherment.

  -  LA DEHESA

The so called Dehesa del Saler is located between the Albufera and the sea and covers an area of 10 km. Many tourist come here just to watch the sunset from one of it viewpoints. The pines forest of La Dehesa is a very recommendable and relaxing place, where the citizens of Valencia often go, away from the big city.

  -  MONASTERIO DE LA VALLDIGNA (MONASTERY OF LA VALLDIGNA)
Monastery of La Valldigna
 
Strategically located in the valley of the town of Simat de la Valldigna, it is the first monastery to acquire special importance in the old Kingdom of Valencia, after the Reconquest. It is a Cistercian monastery founded in the XIII century, which held its 700th anniversary in 1998. The church is the better preserved monument in the monastery. Nowadays, most of the areas, such as the Main Hall, the cloister or the gothic arches of the palace are in process of restoration.

  -  MANISES
Artisan from Manises
 
Since the Medieval Ages, cities like Paterna or Manises, have been pioneers in the ceramics craftsmanship, above all in the design of tiles. The city of Manises has today a great industrial activity, a consequence of the old tradition. Anyone who goes there, will be able to visit the ceramics factories, and to admire the decoration of the façades of the houses with typical tiles, or to enjoy the architecture and decoration of the old country houses.
