Spanish and Valencian (the local language) coexist officially in Valencia.
It's not very common for the inhabitants of the city to speak Valenciano. On the contrary, it's in the sorrounding towns where it is most used, apart from in almost all towns on the coast, specially those nearer from Castellón and Alicante. Most of the  towns in the interior (in the direction of Cuenca or Madrid), such as Requena or Utiel constitute the entirely Spanish-speaking area of the Comunidad Valenciana. They are zones where practically only Spanish is spoken.
